Senior Chemistry at Cambridge High School introduces a range of new topics at Year 12 that are built on in Year 13. We endeavor to provide a course that provides a basic knowledge of chemistry that can be used in the workplace and prepares students who intend to carry on to tertiary study. All senior chemistry courses provide ample practical experiences that help to support student learning of abstract concepts.

At Level 2 we have a mix of internal and external subjects that cover some analytical chemistry, reduction and oxidation, structure of matter, thermochemistry, reaction dynamics and organic chemistry.

At Level 3 we introduce some basic spectroscopy and further extend the Level 2 subjects.

The University of Waikato offers two competitions during the year that we usually send teams to, the Chemquest for Year 12 students and the Analytical Chemistry competition for Year 13s.
