Ernest Wilkin Cox was the son of Edmund and Ann Cox and was born on the 11th of April, 1893. Ernest was a teamster and farmer before the war and enlisted very early on. He joined up on the 13th of August and served in the Auckland Infantry Regiment, 16th Waikato Company.
Ernest was one of the first troops ashore on Sunday the 25th of April the opening day of the Gallipoli campaign. Ernest landed at Anzac Cove, and was never seen again and was presumed killed. He is commemorated on the Plugges Plateau Lone Pine Memorial.
